Halifax Herald Sept 21, 1999 Babin, Oswald Gerard - 79, Thomas Street, Sydney, formerly of Meteghan, passed away September 18, 1999. Born Feb 18, 1920, Oswald was a son of the late Joseph Everette Babin and Eva Marie Fontaine. Oswald will be remembered for his quick wit, dry sense of humour, his generosity and great physical strength. During the 50 years Oswald lived in Cape Breton he was a respected employee of Chaisson and MacDonald Ltd., Pyro-Minerals Ltd., Atlantic Springs Ltd., Yava Mines and H.W. Phillips and Sons Ltd. He is survived his wife, Bessie (Saulnier); sons, Leonard (Debbie McNamara), Montreal; James (Maureen MacNeil), Sydney; daughters, Jeanette, Halifax; Joyce (Macdonald Gillis), Sydney; Elaine (Dave Fournier), Chicago; and Carol Ann,Sydney. Oswald is also survived by beloved grandchildren, Renee, Marc, Montreal; David and Molly, Sydney; Graham, Katherine and Hannah, Chicago. Oswald is also survived by sisters, Evelyn (Patnaude), New Hampshire; Ina (Bonneau), Massachusetts; Leonie (Litalian), New Hampshire; and brothers, Rosario, Meteghan; Bert, Meteghan; Donald, Saulnierville. He was predeceased by brothers, Clarence and Albert; sisters, Regina; four siblings in infancy. A memorial mass will be held Thursday, September 23 at 11 am in St Anthony Daniel Church, 105 Alexandra St, Sydney. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. A blood donation may be made to the Canadian Blood Services. |
